Dirk started to play drums at the age of 7 years and joined a Drum Corps in his home town in Holland. He bought his first drum kit when he was in High School and formed his first group called Excalibur.
His heroes at this time were Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, AC/DC and Kiss.
Dirk joined a thrash group called Vulture, with whom he made his first 2 albums. |

The next move was to Elegy - and he played on all of the Elegy albums to date, except the first one. He also played on 2 Consortium Project albums (this was where he met Patrick), and 2 Adagio albums.
At this point in his life Dirk was considering leaving music - during 17 years he felt he'd worked on a lot of albums, especially towards the end and it was time to move on and do something else. |

That however was not the end of the story. A new chapter in his musical career was about to begin for Dirk!
In 2002 Patrick contacted Dirk and sent him some demos of the new album he was writing (Ephemeral World). Patrick asked Dirk if he would consider working on this album.
Dirk's reaction :
"The stuff you played me it immediately grabbed me! I was in a bit of a depression mode at that point, and had decided to move out of music for while. Then you came with this stuff, and I was like wow! I mean tired or not tired, sick of it or not - I have to do this! I never did an instrumental album - this is the first one, you have a lot more space for yourself, it is part of the whole thing instead of just the vocal steps that come out."
Ephemeral World with Dirk on drums was released April 2004. |
